Nesting Programmer

Job Summary

This position is responsible for performing all activities needed for programming CNC
equipment, including maintenance of programs and files. The CNC Nest Programmer follows all Engineering and Production procedures, efficiently utilizes time, materials and machine capabilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following with other duties assigned as necessary:

  • Converts existing SolidWorks Models to DXFs.
  • Operates the company CAD/CAM software (Radan) to develop CNC programs, Nest reports and Setup sheets.
  • Identify and implement tooling and or machine changes in order to optimize productivity.
  • Use knowledge of fabrication process constraints (machine, material and tooling).
  • Troubleshoot all nesting/programming issues.
  • Maintain CNC automated nesting parameters and tooling setups.
  • Work with Fabrication and Scheduling to validate and assurethe accuracy of the daily production schedule.
  • Collaboration with engineering department to resolve BOM and/or routing discrepancies
  • Provide various levels of production support
  • Printing and distribution of work orders and drawings to production floor
  • Ensures that all work is performed in accordance with and adheres to IEA’s ISO and Quality standards.

  • Maintaining physical condition necessary for the following: Frequent sitting; infrequent standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, stooping, squatting, twisting upper body, or climbing.
  • Working at heights off the ground up to: 10 (seldom).
  • Vision requirements: Close, distance, and peripheral vision; depth perception.


Work Environment

  • Work location(s): Office; Fabrication.
  • Exposure to: Fumes, airborne particles, wet/humid (non-weather) conditions, toxic/caustic chemicals, moving mechanical parts/equipment.
  • Personal protective equipment requirement: Safety glasses when in shop areas.


Position Requirements:

  • Key skills, abilities and knowledge:
    • Ability to communicate (oral/written) with employees and others.
    • Proficiency in CAD/CAM software.
    • Basic understanding of CAD system (SolidWorks) .
    • Basic understanding of blueprints.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
    • Knowledge of occupational hazards and the ability to follow safe work practices.
  • Experience: Three or more years of fabrication experience.
  • Educational: High School or equivalent, trade school for CAD training and/or CNC programming
    training preferred.
